Salt Springs State Park: The Friends of Salt Springs State Park, Inc., host varied events and offer its educational and environmental programs to the community and public. Trails through the park offer a vista of spectacular topography of the surrounding region. Licensed hunting and fishing are permitted in season. A day-use picnic area is available. The park is also ideal for winter activities, including cross-country skiing, sledding and tobogganing. The park is located 6 miles north of Montrose, on Silver Creek Road (one mile west of Rt. 29) in the village of Franklin Forks. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk. D&H Rail Trail is a 32 mile corridor for multi-purpose recreational use along the eastern border of the County. Abandoned rail lines have been converted into recreational trails for walking, running, horseback riding, cross-country skiing or snowmobiling. The trailhead office is located on Rt. 334, Main Street, Forest City and is open Monday through Thursday from 9-3 or by appointment. Phone: 570-785-7245 for a list of events. Florence Shelly Preserve part of the Nature Conservancy, is a 357-acre Preserve and home to many thriving species of plant, animal and bird life. Self-guided trails are available or guided walks with stewardship committee members are provided through undeveloped trails. Elk Mountain Ski Resort offers some of PA’s best skiing. The resort is located on Rt. 374 in Union Dale and offers many ski programs and trails for the first-time through expert skier. Woodbourne Forest and Wildlife Sanctuary The Sanctuary is located on Rt. 29, approximately 6 miles south of Montrose.
